Forever Young

Is that possible?…To wake up one day and find the human technology defeating “aging” and becoming near to the sci-fi fantasy that called” immortality “..

Dr. Aubrey De grey one of the most controversial scientists now in the world. He claims that between 25 and 30 yrs human will have the technology and the way to stop the aging and start to live longer…

He also claims that in 50 years or so people will live until they reach 500 – 1000 yrs old and as if they are still in the 20s or the 30s of their age !! But to do that in the future, it will need money more than the Iraq War expenses…

He is the chairman and the chief a foundation called “Methuselah Foundation” which it’s a scientific competition designed to draw attention to the ability of new technologies to slow and even reverse the damage of the aging process, preserving health and wisdom in a world that sorely needs it…

In that foundation they look for the genes that make us age and try to remove it or stop their hormones.

Like this idea of a small animal for one species live longer than the bigger ones in the same species…- the little mouse lives longer than the bigger mouse …

So… How does Dr De Grey find these results…?

He proposed seven types of Aging damage :

Nuclear mutations: which are the changes in the DNA which hold our genes with our information in it. Certain changes can lead to Cancer.

Mitochondrial mutations: Mitochondria are compounds in our cells that produce energy. Any changes in these compounds lead to disturbance in producing energy and that may affect the Aging process.

Intracellular junk: Inside our bodies, the result from breaking-down proteins is junk which the cells can’t throw it away so they restore it in the cells as Junk. Atherosclerosis, macular degeneration and all kinds of neurodegenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer’s disease) are associated with this problem.

Extra-cellular junk: Harmful junk protein can also accumulate outside of our cells. For example, the amyloidal plaque seen in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.

Cell Loss: Some of our cells can’t be replaced or replaced very slowly and that affects the heart and weakens it. That causes a lot of diseases like Parkinson

Cell senescence: it’s phenomenon in which the cell loses the ability to divide and at the same time they can’t die and that doesn’t let other cells to divide. This thing can cause Type 2 diabetes.

Extra-cellular cross-links: Cells are held together by special linking proteins. When too many cross-links form between cells in a tissue, the tissue can lose its elasticity and cause problems including arteriosclerosis and presbyopia.

All of the previous points make Dr. Grey comes to the conclusion that we can live longer and makes him wanting to start the foundation, but the question here is:

Is that possible?..Is it right to do this in first place ? What will we do if that really happens & instead of 100,000 person die everyday and 100,000 born everyday…the death rate decreases until and cities which used to have 1 million people will have 50 million people?

Many questions and ethical matters in this issue…But I’ll leave it to your opinion…
